Megan Johnston, LCMHC-A (Durham Office)
Megan has spent the last 5 years working with children on the autism spectrum encouraging developmental growth and pairing independence to acceptance, emotion regulation, and daily living skills. After graduating from North Carolina State University with her BA in Psychology she found her passion in wanting to serve those who are looking for a safe place to process life, such as boundaries, communication, grief, trauma, and the overall grit that life can bring. Her main passion is providing a mental health lens to better support not only the ASD community and others with disabilities, but also children, teens, and families seeking unity under the guidance of attachment theory and Erikson’s stage of psychosocial development.
Megan graduated from Liberty University summa cum laude and is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling- Associate at Triangle Disability & Autism Services. Under the guidance of a supervisor she is currently seeking out clients to support and enhance their life story.
Megan uses a sensory-based approach to enhance skills the child, adolescent, or individual is already equipped with while pairing the understanding of the current needs and ultimately bridging those to reach the therapy goals. This can be used for things such as dealing with anxiety or depression, understanding yourself and how that impacts your life, or increasing social and communication skills. This may include sensory engaging play skills or arts for children, while adults may use various communication tools or art expressions. It is important to help understand current needs, supports, and skills and increase independence and overall skills to enhance life satisfaction while understanding a disability, neurodivergent, or autism lens.
