Meet Our Therapists

Beth Horne, LCSW-A

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and meeting you where you are in your unique life path is of the utmost importance to me. I believe that each person needs different things, and together, we can find the best approach for you. I utilize a combination of Triple P, DBT, ACT, attachment theory, and family systems therapy to address the unique needs of each individual and family.
Having a trusting relationship with clients is key to empowerment and growth in therapy. My goal is to help you feel confident and in control of your life. Many of these negative feelings are merely symptoms of forgotten or neglected aspects of yourself. I want to work with you to get to the core of the problem and know what your body is trying to tell you.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with minors in American Sign Language and Deaf Advocacy. I received my Master of Social Work degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.
I am LGBT+ affirming and a part of the community myself. My partner has Autism, which gives me a unique perspective on ASD.

Kathy Mayer, LCMHC

Everyone’s story is unique, and everyone deserves an individual approach to their problems. I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate that specializes in working with adolescents and adults with IDD and concerns related to depression, anxiety, relational problems, grief, loss, and self-esteem issues. My theoretical orientation is eclectic and includes cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and dialectic behavioral therapy. Techniques that I utilize may include dialogue, psycho-education, relaxation, reframing of negative thoughts, role-play, and mindfulness activities.

I love building connections with my clients and giving them the tools needed to empower them to lead happy healthy lives. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of the healing journey and want to have a collaborative relationship with my clients so that we may work as a team to improve quality of life and overall wellness.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. My passion for working with people with IDD comes from being the mother of a young man with autism.

Megan Johnston, LCMHC-A

My practice is rooted in supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and other developmental needs. I am passionate about creating a space where neurodivergent individuals—and their families—feel seen, supported, and empowered. Whether it's navigating daily living skills, emotional regulation, or advocating for school accommodations such as 504 Plans and IEPs, I strive to meet each client with respect and understanding. In addition to my work with neurodivergent clients, I support individuals facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and the emotional impact of trauma. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, providing a safe environment for exploring difficult experiences.I am a play and talk therapist who incorporates evidence-based approaches, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to support emotional growth and resilience through a neurodivergent lens. Over the past six years, I’ve worked with adults, teens, and children, encouraging developmental progress while fostering independence, self-acceptance, and emotional regulation in everyday life. I view therapy as a partnership—one built on trust, empathy, and a shared commitment to growth.Finding the right support can feel overwhelming. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood, one that is guided by your goals and values. I’m honored to be part of your journey and welcome any questions you may have about getting started. I graduated from NC State with a BA in Psychology and from Liberty University summa cum laude.
