Building Abilities Center Visitor and Participant Rules and Expectations
Building Abilities Center works to create a safe, inclusive, & accepting environment for everyone. By reading and acknowledging this document, all program participants and visitors agree to adhere to the following rules and expectations. Failure to do so may result in being asked to leave.
Building Abilities Center is a PEANUT-FREE ZONE.
Building Access
The Building Abilities Center is leased space on the Cisco RTP campus. The facility is secure and requires adherence to strict guidelines to ensure safety for everyone. Under no circumstances should any program participant or visitor open the doors for another person.
Photography/Videography
TDAS understands the importance of capturing the moment. We respectfully ask program participants and visitors do not photograph or record individuals without their express permission. That means people you do not know!
Attire
When visiting the Building Abilities Center, all program participants and visitors are expected to dress appropriately. It is important that everyone feels safe and welcome. If TDAS staff determines an individual’s attire is offensive or inappropriate program participants or visitors may be asked to leave. Closed-toe, non-skid shoes are highly encouraged.
Medication
TDAS requires all program participants and visitors to keep any medication, properly packaged (labeled prescription bottle or manufacturer’s package), with them at all times. Any violation of this will result in an individual being asked to leave.
All individuals participating in day program activities must adhere to the Building Abilities Day Program Medication policy.
Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation
Triangle Disability & Autism Services staff will not abuse, neglect, exploit, or mistreat a participant or visitor. Such treatment will end in termination and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
Instructors and Support Professionals must report abuse, neglect, exploitation and/or mistreatment. Staff is required by law to report any incident or suspicion of abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Department of Social Services.
Right to Privacy at BAC
While Triangle Disability & Autism Services [TDAS] respects an individual’s privacy, if there is a reasonable suspicion of a violation of law or TDAS policies management may conduct a search of the individual’s belongings.
Inclement Weather
Building Abilities Center will close when weather and travel conditions present a risk to the health and safety of our participants and staff. We closely monitor the NC Department of Transportation travel advisories and local weather reports. If the Building Abilities Center has a delay opening or close. Please call 919-746-2201
Wellness Policy
To prevent the spreading of germs, please DO NOT come to Building Abilities Center if you are displaying symptoms of an illness or not feeling well.
Please note if a visitor is identified as sick, they will be isolated from others to prevent the spread of potential illness. They will remain a supervised distance away from others until they can be picked up.
Damage and Loss of Property
TDAS acknowledges that accidental and/or intentional property damage can be caused by participants or visitors. When damage to TDAS property occurs restitution may need to be made by the party responsible.
Safe Environment
It is the goal of Building Abilities Center to provide a safe environment for all who visit.
Everyone will be respectful of each other and recognize each other’s personal space. Actions considered inappropriate:
- Hugging another person
- Grabbing another person to get their attention
- Kissing another person
- Touching another person in an inappropriate or intimidating way
- Verbal aggression, intimidation, or other form of emotional bullying
TDAS Code of Conduct
Triangle Disability & Autism Services [TDAS] is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all. To promote safety and comfort, TDAS asks all participants and visitors at Building Abilities Center to act appropriately at all times.
We expect everyone to behave responsibly, and to respect the rights and dignity of others. The actions listed below, which are not intended to be an all-inclusive list of behaviors, are considered inappropriate and are prohibited in our center and may result in someone being asked to leave
- Using or possessing alcohol or illegal drugs around or in the Building Abilities Center.
- Smoking around or in the Building Abilities Center. The building and grounds are smoke and tobacco product-free environments. This includes vaping and e-cigarettes.
- Carrying or concealing a weapon or any device or object that may be used as a weapon.
- Harassment and/or intimidation by words, gestures, body language, or any other type of threatening behavior.
- Physical contact with another person in an angry, aggressive, or threatening way.
- Verbally abusive behavior, including profanity, swearing, name-calling, etc.
- Sexually explicit conversation or behavior; any sexual contact with others.
- Theft or behavior that results in the destruction or loss of property.
- Triangle Disability & Autism Services reserves the right to deny access to any person who has been accused or convicted of any crime or has been a registered sex offender, has ever been convicted of any offense related to the sale, possession and/or transportation of illegal drugs.
- Triangle Disability & Autism Services understands that some individuals may require behavior support, but some actions may result in being asked to leave. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Biting another person.
- Intentionally hitting another person.
- Destruction of property that may or may not cause injury.
- Aggressive unwanted physical contact with another person.
- Hair pulling, kicking, pinching, slapping, punching, throwing objects at another person.
Anyone who feels that this Code of Conduct is being violated should immediately make a report to someone in charge.
Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in expulsion from the Building Abilities Center.
